In 2012, he hired me to time the Edmonds Half Marathons in Washington. I gave him a really good rate. He said he would provide a hotel which he did not which I had to pay for out of my own pocket. And he asked me if I knew of any T-shirt vendors. I recommended my friend which provided the T-shirts. None of us got paid even though his race did very well. He had 300 participants but he could not pay me or my friend the $2300 for the t-shirts. He had no excuse. And i found out later, that he owed his previous t-shirt vendor over $12,000. And the charities that were suppose to benefit from his race did not receive what they were suppose to. That is how he works. He makes lots of promises but never fulfills them. Never do business with this man. He is a crook. He takes advantage of unsuspecting honest vendors. That is how he makes his money.
I was asked to run USRA Half Marathon’s social media (Facebook and Twitter). Didn’t pay me when he said he would (other than the first month) and I believe still owes me a social media payment as well.
Running his Facebook page was a nightmare. Facebook is meant to be fun, informative and interactive. It was a nightmare. Constant complaints of poorly organized races, people not receiving medals, People not receiving shirts, lack of food, no live band as advertised… the list of complaints went on and and (I have copies of many many of them that I took because I knew most, if not all of them, would be deleted by Reinke Sports group). I haven’t posted the complaints because they are pictures of comments directly off Facebook and I do not have permission from the runners to post them (although I could probably black out the last names and post anyway).
Prior to running his social media, I was also asked to help fill vendor booth space by a friend of mine for Dean Reinke’s Tri-Cities Half Marathon. I am not exactly sure how she became involved with him to begin with.
He agreed to pay me commission for each booth sold. Booth space was $250 per booth. It was very difficult filling space and he refused to discount it. Even for a short period of time. It took so much time and effort to get booth spaces, at that price, filled.
I sent him checks (vendor booth fees) and it took weeks to receive commission I earned. He also asked me to coordinate the expo and did not pay me to do so. What I was getting paid in commission wasn’t worth the amount of time and effort I had to put into the expo. And I was told we will have 1,000 runners which sounds great to vendors paying for booth space. We had 600 by the time the expo rolled around and 808 by race time. Very few people attended the expo.
I didn’t want to help with the next event (Columbia River Half) but he wouldn’t accept no for an answer. I emailed him with my terms. 30% commission (up from the 20% I got before) and I wanted full sponsorship comped for my wine business. He agreed.
I did not get the full sponsorship package. The only check he sent me was 20% commission and he never did send me the rest. He still owes me money I know I will never see. Countless hours down the drain. He expected me to show up and run the Columbia River Half Expo for him. I refused because he owed me money and once again wasn’t paying me to run the expo. He got angry and sent me an email telling me how unprofessional I am.
The Columbia River Half Marathon was horrible. I have copies of runners complaints on that race as well. Many people that paid for that race did so when it was advertised as a night run. Dean refused to fork out money to pay for lights so he changed it to a morning run. Runners complained that is not what they paid for and Dean refused to issue refunds.
I really hope that our sports counsel does not allow him to do another race here. Aside from me, hundreds of runners were taken advantage of.
I have worked with Mr. Reinke on several races. I have since cut ties, because I do not like the way the business is run, the races are put together…etc. Ever since I have cut ties, he still owes me close to $1000.00 for work done at two events. I actually just received and email from another man who is still owed money, in the amount of $2500.00, and was wondering if I had been paid.
1st. The races are never in the places he originally posts. They are always in some obscure town, that really, no one would “visit”.
2nd. The course are not marked accurately. They are measured with a GPS and can be short or long up to a half mile. This is WRONG…especially when you are paying top dollar for events.
3rd. The course are poorly marked. At every race there are runners that get lost…there is a lack of markers (mile and directional signs) There is also a lack of volunteers on the course…
4th. There is not adequate water stops on the course. This is dangerous, and he is asking for a huge law suit.
5th. The post race is pitiful. There is barely enough water at the finish line for the participants, and he simply purchases cookies and crackers from Wal-Mart and throws them on a table?!?
6th. The t-shirts are sad. You pay $70+ for a half marathon and you get a cotton shirt? Really? This price point is set for a technical shirt…who does he think he is Disney World?
7th. Awards are sad. They are stock insert medals that cost about $2.00 each. Crap. For this price and ACCOMPLISHMENT should be a custom dye medal.
Overall this man is CHEAP and will cut on everything possible. He didn’t even have a clock at one of the events because he didn’t want to have it shipped. Not only has he cheated me out of money, but he had me running around like his personal secretary…as he sat in his hotel room. I should have said no, but I take pride in my work and want to make my customers happy.
We just cancelled an order for this man in the 11th hour after our graphic artist stumbled upon this site! My company, Preferred Sportswear Inc. produces custom printed shirts and apparel for non-profits, fun runs, marathons and charity walks on a National Level, and provide unbeatable service, pricing and merchandise to our beloved clients- and are happy to do so!
Not knowing anything about Dean Reinke, or USRA- I, of course pursued him as a client! Well, after winning the bid by providing phenomenal pricing, I was very happy to take his order.
The 1st sign of Shadiness was his immediate request for NET 30 Terms. He told me he runs SOOOOO many events and has such a good reputation, that net 30 is how he has ALL of his vendors set up. So, I agreed (bad move).
Moving forward, he didn’t provide the artwork required- so my during the TEN hours of art time my GA put into his job (for free) he stumbled upon reinkereviews.tumblr.com and came running in to warn us!!!!
Since we already did SO much work for him, in preparing his artwork- we decided to give him the opportunity to be honest…. we were very up front with him.
We told him what we found online and that it would be a very poor decision to print and ship these shirts on the “honor system” ESPECIALLY seeing he owed another t-shirt supplier over $12,000 (I don’t have proof-but according to this website and the shirt company it is MUCH more than that!)
We told Dean that we would do the order for him, but needed to be paid in advance…well he flipped and said, “we are responsible for breaking a deal” kept claiming he had references, YET he wouldn’t provide them! We asked him 100 times to give us a previous shirt vendor for reference, and after going around and around about his GOOD reputation, he just WOULD NOT give us a reference. He also “knows nothing about Marathon Sportswear, never heard of them he said” Told us he hasn’t been sued and actually called me a “FU**ING B*TCH” and told my dad that he “FUC**D UP” his order. This guy is a complete Talker and he really almost had me!
If anyone has questions, or would like to honestly order shirts for their event- we enjoy working with honest, kind people who respect a good business practice!
PREFERRED SPORTSWEAR INC. #1 IN RACE DAY SHIRTS
Acts of god, np. There was a tornado through the area on Oct 19. Dean leaves the website open collecting registrations through Oct 28 when they post that the race is canceled due to the damage done on Oct 19. Meanwhile, no refunds due to acts of god. Thanks and come again.
I ran in the inaugural Worcester Marathon. I found them to be very responsive before the race, and I was happy to get regular email updates. I thought that everything would be in place to have a good experience, though I was a little nervous in that the group did not seem to have put on a marathon before. I should have run in the other direction…
To be fair, the first 20 miles were fine, though there was one water stop which had run out of Gatorade before I got to it. At mile 20, which was my 4 hour mark, we had looped back to downtown Worcester. There was not a coned off lane for us, forcing us onto the sidewalk. Fine, until you get to the sidewalk cafes…There were police at every intersection, but at one point we went by the civic center, where a high school graduation was being held that day. I could not spot the officer because of the crowd and traffic, and took a wrong turn. Fortunately I sensed I had gone wrong within a minute and turned around, and then saw the police officer in the middle of the street waving me back. I finished without further incident.
When I got to the finish, they were out of medals for the full. I was assured by the volunteers that the medals were the same, it was only the ribbons which differed between half and full. All inquiries made by me for an appropriate ribbon have been met with deafening silence.
The group had the unmitigated nerve to forward me glowing reviews about the race.
I registered for Reinke Sports Group’s Tracy Half Marathon in November 2011, the race date set for January 2012. The race was then moved to a different date as Reinke did not have the permits (see this article: http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20111208/A_SPORTS/112080326) and was rescheduled for May 20th. I have received several emails regarding the race but now when I click on the links for more info, they are broken. Dean Reinke replied to me via email that “It is not our event” but still there in no refund! HOW CAN HE KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS?!?!?!?
